Key takeaways
- The Journées Techniques Biomédicales (JTB) are the annual congress of the AAMB, the association of hospital biomedical technicians. The organiser describes them as “the only professional congress specifically intended for biomedical technicians”: conferences, technical workshops and an exhibition where medical device manufacturers and service providers meet hospital maintenance teams.
- Next edition: the 44th JTB, from Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 November 2026, at Micropolis Besançon, in the Palais des Congrès (Hall E). The partner exhibition is concentrated on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 November.
- Organiser: the AAMB (Association des Agents de Maintenance Biomédicale), a non-profit association founded in 1981 and run by volunteer biomedical technicians. The 2026 edition is being prepared with a local team from Besançon University Hospital (CHU). No event operator is involved.
- Annual frequency, with a different city each year: Caen in 2021, Pau in 2022, La Rochelle in 2023, Montpellier in 2024, Metz in 2025, Besançon in 2026.
- Training format: the JTB is a continuing professional training programme certified Qualiopi. Technicians register as trainees, funded by their employer: €800 incl. VAT for any registration from 1 July 2026, with the file to be returned before 30 October 2026.
- Size: the organiser reports an average of more than 50 exhibiting partners. The 2025 edition in Metz had 81 stands, a record according to the AAMB president; the 2024 floor plan in Montpellier showed 64.
Who exhibits
Typical profile
The trade show is aimed at manufacturers that sell or service medical equipment installed in hospitals. The organiser lists four families: medical device manufacturers, service providers, suppliers of measurement and testing equipment, and suppliers of spare parts (batteries, medical lamps).
The 2026 partner pack details the sectors covered: endoscopy, infusion, ventilation, medical imaging, disinfection and sterilisation, functional exploration, laboratory, metrology, monitoring, surgical instrumentation, surgical arms, operating tables and surgical lights, dentistry, optics and lighting, consumables and cables. The registration form distinguishes manufacturers, distributors, and maintenance, testing and service companies.
Notable exhibitors
The list of 2026 partners is not published online: the Besançon 2026 page only offers the registration packs, the programme and the poster. The provisional 2026 programme does, however, name manufacturers as workshop leaders or speakers: B. Braun on the maintenance of automated infusion, Dräger, Ecolab on the qualification of LDEs, Gamida, Lordil on microscope adjustment, Morgate on the electrical safety of medical devices, as well as Medtronic and Comex in the conference programme. The UGAP, the public purchasing agency, also leads a workshop. This programme remains subject to change up to the day of each session.
To gauge the calibre of the line-up, the 2025 partner plan for the Metz edition provides a benchmark: Philips, GE Healthcare, Dräger, Mindray, Stryker, Olympus, Fresenius Kabi, B. Braun, Masimo, BD, Steris, Zeiss Meditec, Air Liquide Healthcare, Nihon Kohden, Erbe and Hamilton were listed, alongside maintenance and metrology specialists. Nothing indicates that all of these companies will be present in Besançon.
Visitor quality
The audience is homogeneous: biomedical technicians from public and private healthcare establishments, or from their maintenance contractors. They attend for training, with a named badge whose QR code is used to check attendance, and only receive their certificate of completion at the end of the session. Time on site is therefore long: four days, with stand visits built into the programme between conferences.
The organiser also invites students from schools and universities that train in biomedical technology and engineering, free of charge. No attendance report for the 2025 edition is published online. The minutes of the board meeting of January 2025, published in the AAMB Gazette of March 2025, report 124 trainees in Montpellier in 2024, against 108 in La Rochelle in 2023, 78 in Pau in 2022 and 60 in Caen in 2021. The 2026 partner pack also provides for 200 delegate bags.
Programme & community
Conference programme
The conferences cover medical developments and their technical applications, the regulations governing the maintenance of medical devices, and cross-cutting topics such as hospital hygiene, IT and networks. The principle is to pair a practitioner’s account of the clinical need with the manufacturer’s technical response.
The provisional 2026 programme gives a large place to Besançon University Hospital: transcranial magnetic stimulation, hyperbaric oxygenation, microrobotics and optics in ENT, ophthalmic surgery, and a two-part session on the daily work of the anaesthetist. It also includes the unique device identifier (UDI) and CE marking, a lessons-learned session on building an operating theatre, electroporation in the ablation of cardiac rhythm disorders, artificial intelligence applied to polyp detection, a three-year review of the AFAQ Service Biomédical certification and a talk by humanitarian NGOs.
Technical workshops
The workshops, separate from the conferences, are led by exhibiting partners on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 November, in parallel with the conferences: 45-minute sessions for groups of around 10 to 15 participants. They are approved by the AAMB’s technical training committee and must not be used as a sales presentation. The workshop is a free service reserved for partners who take a stand.
Community & networks
The AAMB is an association of biomedical technicians, open to both the public and private sectors. It publishes a quarterly gazette, took part with AFNOR, AFIB and the UTC in creating the AFAQ Service Biomédical certification, and contributes to standards and regulatory working groups. The JTB is its main annual event: the association’s general meeting was held during the Metz edition in 2025.
Conviviality is part of the format, and the organiser acknowledges it in its documents: a welcome cocktail, a regional produce dinner on Wednesday 18 November, and a gala evening on Thursday 19 November where the delegates most diligent with the knowledge quizzes offered on the stands are rewarded.
On site: what you need to know
The congress takes place at Micropolis Besançon, an exhibition and congress centre at 3 boulevard Ouest, in Hall E of the Palais des Congrès. The site has a private car park of 1,200 spaces and is served by tram lines T1 and T2 (Micropolis stop, about 300 m from the main entrance).
For trainees, reception opens on Tuesday 17 November at 1:00 pm and the day ends at 5:30 pm. On Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19, days run from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. On Friday 20 November, the morning starts at 8:30 am and ends at 12:00 pm with the closing session and the handing out of certificates. The Micropolis calendar, for its part, lists the event from 9:00 am on Tuesday to 5:00 pm on Friday.
The training fees include lunch on 18 and 19 November and dinner on the 18th. Accommodation remains the responsibility of the employing establishment.
How much it costs to exhibit
| Poste de dépense | Fourchette basse | Fourchette haute |
|---|---|---|
| Standard space of 3 m x 2 m (6 m²): one table, two chairs, wifi, 230 V electricity, 4 lunches and 1 ticket to the gala evening | €1,800 | €1,800 |
| Two adjoining spaces (maximum offered) | €3,600 | €3,600 |
| Additional lunch, per person | €36 | €36 |
| Regional produce dinner on 18 November, per person | €33 | €33 |
| Additional ticket to the gala evening on 19 November | €65 | €65 |
| Insertion of documents in the delegate bags, with stand | €250 | €250 |
| Insertion of documents in the delegate bags, without stand | €500 | €500 |
| TOTAL, one space with no options | €1,800 | €1,800 |
The stand is small and standardised: no free floor area and no built stand, but a table and two chairs. The real budget lies elsewhere, in the travel of the team and demonstration equipment, accommodation and, for those who want to stand out, the optional financial contribution to the cocktail, the breaks, the evening events or the costs of the invited students. These items are not priced by the organiser.
Preparing your visit
For exhibitors
- Contact the AAMB without delay: since 1 September 2026, a registration is only accepted if a space remains, and against payment in full. Spaces are allocated in order of registration and payment.
- Propose a technical workshop: it is free for partners who take a stand, and it is a direct way to reach a group of 10 to 15 technicians. The AAMB gives priority to companies that have not led one recently and to topics that are rarely covered.
- Send four multiple-choice questions before Friday 23 October 2026 for the knowledge quizzes: according to the organiser, a majority of delegates stop by the stand at least once this way.
- Logistics: parcels received on Monday 16 November (8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm), set-up on Tuesday 17 from 3:00 pm or on Wednesday 18 before 10:00 am, dismantling on Thursday 19 not before 3:00 pm. Documents for the delegate bags must be sent before Thursday 5 November, to the address given in the pack and not to the Palais des Congrès.
- Meals: the participation rules ask you to confirm and pay for the number of meals by Thursday 15 October 2026, after which additional meals are no longer guaranteed; any change must be reported by Friday 13 November at the latest.
For biomedical technicians
- Have the registration approved by the training department: the session is funded as continuing professional training, under an agreement with the establishment. The trainee file must be returned before 30 October 2026.
- Register for the workshops in advance: groups are limited to around fifteen participants and registration goes exclusively through the AAMB.
- Book accommodation in Besançon yourself, as it is not included.
- Use the stand visit slots in the programme to compare suppliers of parts, testing tools and maintenance contracts.
CSR policy & initiatives
The AAMB does not publish a CSR policy or a formal environmental approach for the JTB, and no ISO 20121 certification is displayed. Its Qualiopi certification covers the quality of training activities, not environmental impact.
The 2026 partner pack contains a few sobriety measures: the number of badges is requested as close to need as possible to limit waste, and meals are ordered to the exact number from the caterer to avoid losses. The Micropolis website, for its part, does not present an environmental approach specific to the venue.
The charitable side is more visible: NGOs such as Humatem and La Chaîne de l’Espoir were on the 2025 partner plan, and the 2026 programme includes a talk devoted to humanitarian action.

Trajectory analysis
The organiser traces the JTB back to 1983 and the first meetings of biomedical technicians in France. As early as 1982, the AAMB had filed an application for them to be approved as continuing training for hospital staff, an approval held without interruption since, then taken over by the Qualiopi certification in 2022. This status shapes everything else: the typical visitor is a trainee funded by their establishment, present for four days, and not a passer-by. For an exhibitor, this means a restricted but captive audience, not scattered across several halls.
The last two published floor plans show a growing exhibition: 64 stands in Montpellier in 2024, 81 in Metz in 2025, above the average of more than 50 partners reported by the organiser. Moving from city to city is a deliberate choice: the organisation of each edition is entrusted to members who put forward their city’s candidacy, hence a programme that draws on the local hospital, here Besançon University Hospital.
The venue for the 2027 edition had not been announced at the time of writing.
