Description
The Parc Chanot is the historic exhibition and convention centre of Marseille, located on the Rond-Point du Prado, in the 8th arrondissement, in the immediate vicinity of the Stade Vélodrome. The site covers 17 hectares in the heart of Marseille and offers more than 40,000 sqm of covered space dedicated to events, complemented by outdoor areas and landscaped zones.
The park was created in 1906 to host the first Colonial Exhibition of Marseille, on the former parade ground of the Rouet. It bears the name of Jean-Baptiste Amable Chanot, mayor of Marseille (1902-1908 and 1912-1914), who initiated the project. The site hosted a second Colonial Exhibition in 1922, which left significant infrastructure that was reused as early as 1925 for the first edition of the Foire de Marseille, an annual commercial event still running today (its centenary was celebrated in 2025). The park has since established itself as the benchmark facility for hosting trade shows, congresses and consumer events in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
The site has been operated since 1 January 2025 by Marseille events, a dedicated company owned 75% by GL events and 25% by CCIAMP Infrastructures (a subsidiary of the CCI Aix-Marseille-Provence), under a public service delegation awarded by the City of Marseille. The park was historically managed by the SAFIM (Société Anonyme des Foires Internationales de Marseille) from 1985 to the end of 2024. The park combines several dedicated buildings (exhibition palace, congress palace, arts palace, events palace) and outdoor areas that can be configured as required.
Halls
The Parc Chanot extends across several interconnected palaces, sized for trade show, congress and show formats. Surface areas provided by the operator:
- Palais Phocéen: around 13,400 sqm, the largest single-span covered volume, suited to large-scale consumer and B2B trade shows.
- Palais des Congrès: a dedicated complex of around 15,000 sqm over three levels, including two modular auditoriums (from 200 to 1,200 seats), 15 committee rooms and around 3,800 sqm of flexible exhibition and reception space.
- Grand Palais: around 6,900 sqm with a ceiling height of 14 m, Art Deco architecture, suited to high-impact set designs.
- Palais de la Méditerranée: around 6,900 sqm, divisible into two spaces, with natural light.
- Palais des Événements: around 6,500 sqm column-free, accommodating up to 3,200 people in plenary configuration (1,600 to 3,200 seats).
- Palais de l'Europe: around 4,800 sqm column-free, divisible.
- Palais des Arts: a historic palace (a remnant of the 1922 Colonial Exhibition) used for receptions and heritage events, with an adjoining garden.
The main Auditorium of the Palais des Congrès has a capacity of 400 to 1,200 seats, complemented by the Amphithéâtre Callelongue (130 to 426 seats, divisible).
Access and transport
The site benefits from multimodal links in the heart of the city, uncommon for an exhibition centre of this scale.
- Metro: line M2, Rond-Point du Prado station, direct access to the park's main entrance.
- Tram: line T3, stops in the immediate vicinity.
- Bus: RTM services around the Rond-Point du Prado, complemented by reinforced event shuttles during major trade shows.
- Car: motorway exits A50 (from Aubagne / Toulon) and A55 (from Martigues / Aix-en-Provence). The L2 ring road connects the two axes (progressive opening completed in 2018).
- Marseille-Provence airport (Marignane): around 25 km to the west of the park.
- Gare Saint-Charles (TGV): around 4 km to the north of the site, with M2 metro connection to the Rond-Point du Prado.
- Parking: around 1,800 parking spaces on site, available depending on event configurations.
The official address is Rond-Point du Prado, 13008 Marseille.
Services
The range of services follows the event rhythm of the site, with logistics operated directly by Marseille events in conjunction with its partner service providers.
- Catering: restaurants integrated into the park and food truck areas deployed during major events. The offer is sized for trade show footfall.
- Business centre: meeting rooms and modular committee spaces (15 dedicated rooms within the Palais des Congrès), available to complement the palaces for press conferences, exhibitor meetings and organiser committees.
- Operator services: technical management, handling, utilities, security, ticketing and logistics coordination provided directly by Marseille events.
- Accommodation: no hotel integrated into the park. The offer is concentrated along the Prado, Vieux-Port and Castellane axes, in the immediate vicinity of the park (notably the Pullman Marseille Palm Beach and Mercure Marseille Centre Prado Vélodrome), complemented by the wider hotel ecosystem of Marseille city centre.
News
The Parc Chanot entered a new phase in early 2025, under the governance of Marseille events (GL events / CCIAMP Infrastructures), with a roadmap built around the modernisation of facilities, the opening of the park to local residents and the strengthening of business tourism in the Mediterranean.
- New public service delegation 2025-2027: Marseille events took over management on 1 January 2025, after being awarded the contract by the City of Marseille on 12 December 2024.
- Urban transformation: since September 2025, the outdoor areas have been redeveloped (gardens, refreshment area, a secure cycle path linking the Rond-Point du Prado to the rue Raymond Teisseire) to open the park up further to the people of Marseille.
- Adjoining Stade Vélodrome: the overhaul of the Stade Vélodrome (delivered in 2014) and the redevelopment of the Prado-Borély district reinforce the events ecosystem of the 8th arrondissement, with a hosting capacity combining park, stadium and hotels.
Data is not publicly available on the consolidated schedule of upcoming infrastructure deliveries (palaces, halls).
Flagship trade shows
The Parc Chanot hosts the structuring event programme of the Marseille metropolitan area, covering both historic consumer trade shows and sector-specific B2B events.
- Foire Internationale de Marseille: a major general-interest consumer event anchored in the park since 1925 (its centenary was celebrated in 2025). Annual format, late September to early October. One of the oldest commercial fairs in France still running.
- Salon Maison & Habitat: a consumer trade show dedicated to housing, decoration and interior design, held annually at the Parc Chanot.
- SAVIM: the wine and gastronomy trade show of Marseille, annual format in November.
- Sirha Méditerranée: a professional event for catering / hospitality / food trades for the Mediterranean basin, with its first edition in March 2026 (Palais des Événements).
- Euromaritime: a trade show for the maritime and river industries, with its 2026 edition at the Parc Chanot (February 2026).
- SIAC Marseille: the international contemporary art show, annual format.
- HeroFestival: an annual pop culture / geek convention.
- Marseille Tattoo Convention: an international tattoo convention held annually.
- MAP Pro: a trade show for hospitality, catering and food trades in the PACA region.
For planning a B2B event in PACA, the Parc Chanot is the benchmark option in the Marseille metropolitan area. Organisers targeting a complementary format in the region can also refer to the facilities of the Nice-Côte d'Azur metropolis (Palais des Expositions, Palais des Congrès Acropolis) or the Aix-Marseille metropolis (dedicated convention centres).
