A stand builder designs, manufactures and installs the space a company occupies during a trade show. The trade goes beyond construction: it covers the exhibition venue's technical regulations, the file submitted to the organiser, the plans approved before production, then the build and dismantling within the show's allotted time slots.
The bespoke stand is designed for a specific project and built in a workshop: it allows the most freedom on volumes, layout and materials. The modular, or eco-modular, stand relies on a structure reused from one edition to the next, dressed with renewed visuals; this is also what stand rental covers, made available for the duration of the show and then collected. The traditional, turnkey stand relies on standardised partitions and furniture. Some companies have their own joinery workshop, others entrust manufacturing to partners.
Agoris lists 66 stand builders whose head office is in France. Most of them travel well beyond their own region. By activity hub, see stand builders in Paris and Île-de-France and stand builders in Lyon and its region. A stand project also calls on other trades, such as event furniture rental and audiovisual providers in Paris and Île-de-France.
Bespoke stand or modular stand?
Bespoke makes sense when the stand needs to carry a particular scenography, unusual volumes or a layout tied to a launch. Modular has the edge when the same company exhibits several times a year on similar surface areas: the structure is stored then reassembled, with only the visuals and furniture changing. Many projects are hybrid, with a reusable framework and elements designed for the current edition.
Who builds the stand on site?
This is a question worth asking before signing. Some companies build with their own teams, others use a local installer, particularly when working far from their workshop. Both approaches work, provided you know who will be present during the build, who handles an unexpected issue on site and who stays reachable during the show. Asking for the name of the site manager avoids many misunderstandings.
What to check before approving a project?
The dimensioned technical drawing, not just a computer-generated image: heights, storage space, socket positions, weight of suspended elements. It is also worth checking what the quote actually covers, including transport, storage and dismantling, and what still needs to be ordered from the organiser, such as electricity or cleaning. The exhibition venue's regulations shape part of these decisions.
Should you choose a stand builder close to the exhibition venue?
Geographical proximity is not a decisive criterion, since the companies listed are based throughout France and travel. It matters mainly for early-stage exchanges: visiting the workshop, choosing materials, checking the stand's trial assembly before it is shipped. A stand builder based near the exhibitor makes these steps easier; a stand builder based near the venue often knows its access constraints better.
