Key takeaways

  • Itechmer is the professional trade show for the fishing industry in France, from ship design to the processing of seafood products. Its organiser presents it as the only international professional trade show in the country devoted to technologies, equipment and services for the sector.
  • Next edition: from Wednesday 6 to Friday 8 October 2027, from 10:00am to 6:30pm, at the Parc des Expositions de Lorient Bretagne Sud, in Lanester. The 2027 programme and exhibitor list have not yet been published.
  • Organiser: Lorient Bretagne Sud Événements, the brand of the SEM de Gestion du Parc des Expositions SEGEPEX, which also manages the venue. Official website: itechmer.com.

Who exhibits

Typical profile

The trade show's directory sorts its exhibitors into eight families: mechanical, electronics, institutions, trainings, ships, services, heritage and equipment. In practice, you meet shipyards, ports, engine suppliers, suppliers of equipment for fishing, navigation and processing, start-ups and service companies. The trade show also covers safety, process, packaging, transport and logistics.

Maritime heritage has its own family in the directory, but it shares the same list as industry: in 2023, that list mixed the Musée des Thoniers and the Amis du Musée de la Compagnie des Indes with Volvo Penta, Scania and Kongsberg.

The scope is widening: in 2025, the organiser announced that it was fully integrating the marine renewable energy and decarbonisation sectors. The press kit for the 2023 edition, published before the show, gave 11% international exhibitors and 10% first-time participants.

Notable exhibitors

No exhibitor is yet linked to the 2027 edition. The names below relate to 2025, and the online directory of the 2023 edition remains available.

Among the companies announced as registered as early as May 2025: Bopp, CLS, Eneria Cat, Furuno France, Guy Cotten, Kongsberg Maritime France, Le Drezen, Marport France, Mécatlantic Cummins, Morgère France, NPS Driven France, Thalos and TimeZero.

The first-day press release details what was on show on the stands: applications to optimise vessel fuel consumption at Ecomer Data and Neuman, the integration of the Wisamo wing by Coprexma, a compact multichannel echo sounder for coastal fishing at Simrad, live tanks demonstrated by Sea Tech France, and eco-designed gear at Le Drezen, Zunibal and Morgère.

Visitor quality

The trade show describes itself as the fishermen's show, and the 2025 results report stresses this presence: fishermen from the Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Brittany, the Atlantic seaboard, the Mediterranean and the French overseas territories. The organiser describes a visitor base of decision-makers, fishermen, shipowners and official delegations. Pupils and students from maritime courses also attend as part of the programme.

In 2025, 5% of visitors came from abroad: Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Norway, Nigeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal and South Korea. The results report does not publish a breakdown by profession. The latest one found is in the 2021 press kit, for an earlier edition: it counts 61% professional visitors from the private sector, and its chart puts shipowners and seafarers first (31%), followed by shipyards and ship repair (16%), services and consulting (12%) and electronics (11%).

On the business side, the exhibitors quoted in the 2025 results report mention "un bon cru avec des devis et des commandes en cours" (a good vintage, with quotes and orders under way). These are testimonials chosen by the organiser. No third-party audit of attendance was found: the figures in this listing are those of the trade show's press releases.

Programme & community

Conference programme

The 2027 programme has not been published, and the organiser says it is considering new formats for this edition. The 2025 format gives a benchmark: one day, one theme. Wednesday, "French fishing: a diverse and sustainable industry"; Thursday, "Climate and transitions: the sea, a driver of innovation"; Friday, "Fisheries policy: what direction for the future?".

On Friday 2025, the European debate on the common fisheries policy was held, announced under the title "Quelle stratégie pour une pêche européenne durable et souveraine ?" (What strategy for a sustainable and sovereign European fishing industry?). A first-of-its-kind round table on the mental health and well-being of seafarers was scheduled for Thursday, and the results report does cite this theme among the discussions. This programme is built with the trade show's expert committee and managed by the Sea to Sea agency. The 2025 edition received the labels "La mer en commun" (The sea in common) and "Journée de l'innovation maritime" (Maritime Innovation Day).

Innovation Awards

Open to exhibitors, the ITECHMER Innovation Awards held their second edition in 2025. The jury selects innovations linked to the fishing industry that are already on the market or about to be.

2025 winners: the Energy Transition Award for Coprexma, with the integration of an inflatable Wisamo by Michelin wing on a fishing vessel; the Marine Environment Preservation Award for Le Drezen, with the LINC BioMer project for biosourced gear that biodegrades at sea; and a social innovation "coup de cœur" (special favourite) award for Glaz and its Pechkeur study on the experience of seafarers.

Pitches, young people and cinema

Three events were on the 2025 programme. The "Pitchs Innovations", run by the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique, announced 15 entrepreneurs, five of them on the first day. "La pêche une question de jeunes !" (Fishing, a matter for the young!) was to bring professionals into dialogue with students from the Lycée Maritime du Guilvinec, the Institut Agro Rennes-Angers and the Université Bretagne Sud. The Pêcheurs du Monde (Fishermen of the World) festival scheduled three screenings followed by discussions.

Community & networks

In 2025, the trade show received the support of Lorient Agglomération, the Région Bretagne and the DGAMPA. GICAN and France Filière Pêche are among the partners shown. An expert committee has brought together industry representatives since 2018, and a committee of professionals brought fishermen and equipment manufacturers together for the first time in April 2025.

On the press side, relations are handled by the Sea to Sea agency, and the press room archives the press releases and press kits of previous editions.

The area hosts another maritime event in 2027: Navexpo, from 25 to 27 May in Lorient, a civil and defence maritime trade show with demonstrations at sea. Itechmer stands out for its focus on the fishing industry alone and for its hall format.

On site: what you need to know

The trade show takes place at the Parc des Expositions de Lorient Bretagne Sud, 286 rue Rouget de Lisle, in Lanester: communications refer to Lorient, but this is the address to enter in a GPS. The venue has four halls totalling 12,000 sq m and four meeting rooms. The 2025 edition advertised more than 7,000 sq m of exhibition space.

The show is open from 10:00am to 6:30pm on Wednesday 6, Thursday 7 and Friday 8 October 2027. In 2025, exhibitors could access the halls from 8:30am.

By car, the venue has a direct exit from the RN165, from Vannes as well as from Quimper, and a free car park of 850 spaces. By train, the website lists 8 to 9 daily TGV return trips from Paris, and regional services with Vannes, Quimper, Rennes and Nantes. By air, the airports of Nantes, Brest and Rennes are given as 1h30 from Lorient. For accommodation, the trade show's website refers to the Lorient Tourist Office.

The venue was the first in France to obtain the French State's Tourisme et Handicap mark for all four types of disability, and the trade show has a dedicated accessibility page. In 2025, three catering areas operated on site, including two restaurants serving lunch.

An official photographer and video crew cover the event: taking part constitutes consent to the use of images.

Preparing your visit

For exhibitors

  • Position yourself early: for 2025, registrations opened a year before the show, and the 10% discount ended more than six months before opening. The 2027 timetable has not been published.
  • Plan the logistics for heavy equipment: in 2025, no vehicles were allowed into the halls, and set-up took place over the two days before opening.
  • Use the invitations: the 2025 registration form advertised them as unlimited and free, on paper or in electronic form: a simple way to bring in clients and prospects.
  • Aim for the Innovation Awards if a product that is on the market or close to it addresses an issue facing the industry. In 2025, entries were submitted in the exhibitor area until 1 October.
  • Ask the organiser for the recent breakdown of visitors by profession before sizing the stand: it has not been published for 2025.

For decision-making visitors

  • Choose your day according to the programme once it is published: in 2025, each day had a distinct theme, and the European debate was held on Friday.
  • Watch for the opening of 2027 badges: the visitor badge was free in 2025, downloadable online or collected at reception.
  • Allow time on the stands: the first-day press release for 2025 reported equipment demonstrations, including full-scale live tanks.

CSR policy & initiatives

The trade show treats the transition of the fishing industry as a core subject: fleet decarbonisation, selectivity, biodegradable gear, and the La mer en commun label in 2025. This is content, not a commitment about the organisation itself.

That commitment lies with the organiser. Lorient Bretagne Sud Événements publishes a sustainable development policy with 2025-2031 objectives, and says it applies the ISO 20121 standard to its operations. No ISO 20121 certification of the organiser or of the trade show was found. The document targets waste reduction, energy sobriety, responsible purchasing and professional integration.

The venue provides the most tangible element: the Tourisme et Handicap mark, for all four types of disability. No carbon footprint specific to the trade show was found.

Trajectory analysis

The trade show was born in 1995, when the Lorient district entrusted SEGEPEX, the venue's manager, with creating a professional fishing event. From its second edition, it announced 7,000 visitors, 250 exhibitors and some thirty countries represented. Its last four editions have kept the same venue and the same format: Wednesday to Friday, in October.

The published results show erosion: from 7,328 visitors in 2019 to 4,927 in 2025, and from 243 exhibitors to 171. The organiser expected 6,000 visitors and nearly 200 exhibitors in 2025, yet it describes these key figures as stable. The comparison calls for caution: the 2025 figure counts exhibiting brands and companies, and nothing indicates it rests on the same basis as the previous ones. The 2021 edition was also held during the Covid period.

For an exhibitor, the useful question concerns the make-up of the audience more than the volume. The 2025 results report describes a sector that is still investing, with new vessel projects. The 2021 press kit even credits discussions at the 2019 show as the starting point of a contract for the fishing hub at Duqm, in Oman, estimated at 130 million euros. The 2027 edition will show whether the new formats under consideration give the trade show fresh momentum.

The dates of the 2029 edition had not been announced at the time of writing.
