Key takeaways
- SIFER, the Salon International de l'Industrie Ferroviaire (International Railway Industry Show), is the only B2B trade show held in France entirely dedicated to rail: passenger and freight rolling stock, track and infrastructure, signalling, train control and communication, on-board comfort, ticketing and passenger information.
- Organiser: RX (Reed Exhibitions Limited), which has run the event since the group's takeover of the Mack Brooks Exhibitions portfolio in 2019. Official website: sifer-expo.com.
- Frequency: every two years since 1999, in odd years, at Lille Grand Palais.
- Next edition: 15th SIFER, from Tuesday 22 to Thursday 24 June 2027 (10am-5pm on Tuesday, 10am-7pm on Wednesday, 10am-4pm on Thursday).
- Review of the 14th edition (24-26 June 2025): more than 400 exhibitors, including 133 new ones, across 5,500 m², 5,600 unique visitors from 39 countries, 7,400 attendees in total including exhibitors.
- Clear regional anchoring: the Région Hauts-de-France presents itself as France's leading railway region, with close to 14,000 jobs in the sector, figures highlighted on the official hautsdefrance.fr pages to justify the choice of Lille.
Who exhibits
Typical profile
The offer covers the entire railway supply chain, from complete systems to specialised components. The organiser lists more than 160 products and services across major categories: rolling stock construction, sub-systems and components, interior fit-out (seats, air conditioning, lighting), maintenance and refurbishment, trackside equipment, track construction and maintenance, civil engineering, signalling and communications, electrification, passenger information and ticketing systems, station fit-out, passenger security and safety, cabling systems, electronics, mechanical engineering, testing and monitoring systems, IT systems and consultancy services.
On the visitor side, the stated target audience is tightly defined: senior executives, buyers, operators, influencers and engineers with purchasing and decision-making power.
Notable exhibitors
For the 2025 edition, the organiser listed among the newcomers Capgemini, DIGIRAIL, Groupe RATP, Atlas Copco and BSB Maschinenbau, alongside established players such as ABB France, Colas Rail, Vossloh, Vinci Energies, Wabtec, Cembre, Matisa and Schaltbau France. SNCF Réseau was both an exhibitor and a partner of the trade show.
Four regional collective pavilions were present in 2025: Région Hauts-de-France, Région Occitanie, CCI Seine-et-Marne and DEV'UP Centre-Val de Loire.
The up-to-date list is available in the exhibitor directory published by the organiser.
Quality of the audience
The official review of the 2025 edition reports 5,600 unique visitors, up 4.19% on 2023 on a like-for-like basis, and 7,400 attendees in total when exhibitors are included. Professionals came from 39 countries, with 15.52% international visitors; after France, the ten most represented countries were Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Spain, Morocco and Luxembourg.
A more telling indicator than raw attendance: the SIFER Connect matchmaking platform, launched in 2025, generated 1,134 confirmed meetings, and 261 exhibiting companies, or 65% of them, secured at least one qualified meeting.
Events & community
Conference programme
The 2025 edition offered more than 40 conferences, complemented by workshops, technical seminars and international B2B meetings. The format stands out for its demonstration tracks installed in the halls, which allow visitors to observe vehicles and equipment under real operating conditions.
Three themed areas structure the visit: the Espace Tunnelling (Tunnelling Area), created in 2025 and dedicated to innovations in tunnel construction and equipment; the Innovation Hub, which hosted 12 international start-ups in 2025 covering digital technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, decarbonisation and automation; the Espace Emploi (Jobs Area), which connects candidates with major players in the sector, including SNCF Réseau.
The Village FIF, co-built with the Fédération des Industries Ferroviaires (FIF), brought together around a dozen members in 2025 around a conference area organised around three priority themes: the industry, innovation and attractiveness.
Awards and accolades
The trade show hosts the ERCI Innovation Awards, or "Trophées de l'Innovation Ferroviaire" (Railway Innovation Trophies), organised by the i-Trans competitiveness cluster. The ceremony closes the first day and is followed by a networking reception. In 2025, winners Pandrol, Fosina and Expleo were selected to represent France in the European ERCI competition.
Community & networks
SIFER is backed by the industry's institutions: SNCF Réseau, the Fédération des Industries Ferroviaires (FIF), UNIFE (the Union of European Railway Industries), i-Trans, the Région Hauts-de-France and the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) are among the trade show's partners. ETF is the official partner of the Infrastructure area, TELT the official partner of the Tunnelling area.
The 2025 edition provided the setting for the launch of the Alliance de l'Industrie et de l'Ingénierie des Réseaux Ferroviaires (Railway Network Industry and Engineering Alliance), announced by SNCF Réseau, RATP Infrastructures, the FIF, the SETVF and Syntec-Ingénierie, structured around four priorities: investment, attracting talent to the professions, the ecological transition and the efficiency of studies and works.
On the media side, the media partners announced for 2025 were BTP Rail, Railway Gazette and Ville, Rail & Transports.
On site: what you need to know

Accommodation is booked via the organiser's HotelMap partner.
Specific to this trade show: the 2027 edition runs from Tuesday 22 to Thursday 24 June, from 10am to 5pm on Tuesday, 10am to 7pm on Wednesday and 10am to 4pm on Thursday. Access is reserved for professional visitors with a direct link to the sector, photo ID is required and entry is forbidden to under-16s unless prior written authorisation has been given. In 2025, the visitor badge cost €35 for online pre-registration and €50 on site; the 2027 pricing has not yet been published.

Preparing your visit
For the exhibitor
- Check eligibility for a regional or chamber-of-commerce collective pavilion: this is the least costly entry point for an SME, and several regions and chambers of commerce renew this scheme from one edition to the next.
- Plan the logistics of heavy equipment in advance: the demonstration tracks installed in the halls impose handling and build-up scheduling constraints far greater than a standard stand.
- Sign up to SIFER Connect as soon as the platform opens: two-thirds of 2025 exhibitors secured at least one qualified meeting through it, and slots fill up before the doors open.
- For a start-up, aim for the Innovation Hub, which brought together 12 international start-ups in 2025 with greater editorial visibility than a standalone stand.
For the decision-making visitor
- Focus the visit over a day and a half: three days, a single venue, around 5,500 m². The format remains manageable without spreading it out.
- Schedule the visit around the first day if networking is the priority: the Trophées de l'Innovation Ferroviaire ceremony and the reception that follows close out Tuesday evening.
- Position SIFER relative to neighbouring events: it is the only French trade show dedicated to rail as a whole, whereas SITL covers freight and the logistics chain. The two complement each other more than they overlap.
Policy & CSR initiatives
The most tangible commitment lies at the level of the organising group. RX is a founding member of the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative and is targeting carbon neutrality by 2040, with a 50% reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, applied across all its events via a shared roadmap. SIFER does not hold its own ISO 20121 certification.
The venue provides the second layer of assurance: Lille Grand Palais has been ISO 20121 certified since 30 May 2022 across all of its activities (venue hire, event production, hosting shows), following ISO 9001 certification obtained in 2002 and ISO 14001 in 2010. Its CSR policy, named "WE COMEET", covers, among other things, waste sorting, LED lighting and a short-supply-chain catering offer.
On the social side, SIFER supports Women in Rail as its charity of the year, backing gender diversity in railway professions, and devotes an Espace Emploi (Jobs Area) to the sector's technical and engineering recruitment needs. Decarbonisation also features among the major themes of the conference programme, which falls under the trade show's editorial content rather than an organisational commitment.

Trajectory analysis
SIFER has kept up its biennial odd-year rhythm since 1999 without ever leaving Lille Grand Palais, including during the health crisis: the 2021 edition, initially scheduled for 30 March to 1 April, was postponed to 26-28 October rather than cancelled, at the cost of lower attendance (314 exhibitors, 4,100 visitors). The trade show then changed season, moving from March, its historical slot until 2023, to June from 2025 onwards, a positioning maintained in 2027.
The rebound is clear over the latest cycle: more than 400 exhibitors in 2025, including 133 new ones, and an audience that is becoming more international (39 countries represented, 15.52% foreign visitors). The organiser has also broadened the scope beyond rolling stock, with the creation of the Espace Tunnelling in 2025 and an official infrastructure partnership, bringing the trade show closer to the civil engineering and major underground project markets. The move under the RX banner, following the takeover of the Mack Brooks Exhibitions portfolio in 2019, has translated into the industrialisation of matchmaking tools, including SIFER Connect. Growth remains controlled: at 5,500 m², SIFER keeps a tight format compared with the major European railway trade shows, playing the density card rather than the volume one.
