Key takeaways

  • The world's gathering point for duty free and travel retail: TFWA World Exhibition & Conference brings together brands, distributors, airports, airlines and cruise lines every autumn in Cannes around travel retail selling.
  • Organiser: Tax Free World Association (TFWA), a French non-profit association (loi 1901) founded in 1984, based in Paris with more than 500 member companies. It runs the event directly, without any third-party event operator.
  • Next edition: from Sunday 27 September to Thursday 1 October 2026, at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, 1 boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes.
  • 2025 review: 482 exhibiting companies (+4% year on year) across 26,500 m2, and nearly 8,000 visitors (+7%), including 3,032 distributors and concession managers (source: TFWA review, reported by The Moodie Davitt Report).
  • Opening conference on Monday 28 September 2026, from 9am to 11.45am at the Grand Auditorium, on the theme "Shaping The World of Travel Retail".
  • A distinctive format: an exhibition split into themed villages spread in and around the Palais, paired with a programme of workshops, ONE2ONE business meetings and networking evenings on the Croisette.

Who exhibits

Typical profile

The offer covers the full range of categories sold in duty free shops, at airports, on board and in stations. The official list for the 2026 edition breaks down as follows (registrations still open at the time of writing, early August 2026): perfumes and cosmetics (158 companies), wines, spirits, beers and soft drinks (111), confectionery, fine foods and food supplements (63), fashion, accessories, eyewear and luggage (54), jewellery, watches and writing instruments (25), electronics and travel accessories (15), tobacco and accessories (15), gifts, toys, souvenirs and homeware (13).

On the visitor side, the audience is made up of channel buyers: duty free and travel retail operators, concession managers, airports and infrastructure managers, airlines, cruise and ferry companies, marketing agencies and industry service providers.

Notable exhibitors

The official exhibitor list is published by the organiser and shows 456 companies for the 2026 edition at the time of writing, including Amouage, Babor, Bacardi Global Travel Retail, Barton & Guestier, Bateel and Bath & Body Works. The 2025 edition notably brought together Hermès, Chanel, Estée Lauder, Moët Hennessy and Zegna on the brand side, as well as Avolta, Aer Rianta International, China Duty Free Group, Dubai Duty Free, Duty Free Americas and Lagardère Travel Retail on the distribution side (source: The Moodie Davitt Report).

Quality of the audience

The 2025 review reports nearly 8,000 visitors, up 7% year on year, including 3,032 distributors and retail space managers (versus 2,861 in 2024), 2,140 non-exhibiting professional visitors (brands, service concessionaires, agencies) and 268 journalists and content creators. The geographic breakdown measured in 2024 showed 52% of visitors from Europe, 25% from Asia, 9% from the Middle East, 9% from the Americas, 4% from Africa and 1% from Oceania, with France and the United Kingdom providing the two largest delegations (689 and 592 people). This is a buyers' trade show, with a very high density of decision-makers, rather than a volume event.

Conference programme

The TFWA World Conference opens the week on Monday 28 September 2026, from 9am to 11.45am, at the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals, under the title "Shaping The World of Travel Retail". The announced line-up brings together Sarah Branquinho, President of TFWA, for a state of the industry address, economist David McWilliams on the geopolitical and economic effects on international trade, Gilles Roucolle, Managing Partner and Global Head of Industries at Oliver Wyman, on the transformation of mobility and transport hubs, and journalist Charles Duhigg on the drivers of consumer behaviour. The session is moderated by journalist Stephen Sackur.

Four workshops complete the conference: "Global travel retail pulse: Opportunities in customer growth" (Tuesday 29 September, 8am, Auditorium Jean Mineur), "Travel outlook: Beyond the headlines" (Tuesday 29 September, 5pm), "Fashion forward: the new rules of engagement" (Wednesday 30 September, 10am) and "The connected traveller: how AI turns data into growth" (Wednesday 30 September, 3pm).

ONE2ONE business meetings

The ONE2ONE scheduled meetings service is held at the Palais des Festivals on Tuesday 29 September from 2pm to 6.30pm, then on Wednesday 30 September and Thursday 1 October from 9am to 6.30pm. This is the system that structures meetings between buyers and brands outside of free-flow stand visits.

Community & networks

TFWA brings together more than 500 member companies and operates on a principle set out at its creation: an event organised by the industry, for the industry. Cannes week is built around a busy social calendar: an opening cocktail at the Carlton Beach on Sunday 27 September at 7pm, followed by the TFWA Lounge every evening at the Carlton Beach, in a late-afternoon and an evening session. In 2025, the opening cocktail welcomed 2,833 guests and the TFWA Lounge drew 2,267 then 2,400 visitors over its first two evenings.

On the press side, the event is covered continuously by the specialist travel retail press, with a press centre at the Palais and a media briefing scheduled for Thursday 1 October at 11.30am.

On site: what you need to know

For access, parking and accommodation, see the venue page: Palais des Festivals et des Congrès (1 boulevard de la Croisette, 06400 Cannes). The nearest airport is Nice Côte d'Azur, 27 km away; TFWA runs free shuttles between the airport and the Palais, as well as a service to the main Cannes hotels. The Palais's underground car park can hold several hundred vehicles. Free wifi and a luggage storage service are available on site. Over the course of the year, the same Palais hosts other international events such as MIPCOM, MAPIC and ILTM Cannes.

Specific to the trade show: registration and badge collection take place at the Gare Maritime, from Sunday 27 September, 9am to 7.30pm. The exhibition opens on Monday 28 September at 12pm (after the conference) and closes at 6.30pm, then runs 9am to 6.30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 9am to 5pm on Thursday 1 October. Visitor pre-registration is open until 3 September 2026. Accommodation is handled through b network, the event's official partner: for this week, Cannes hotels get booked up well in advance.

How much it costs to exhibit

TFWA does not publish any exhibitor pricing schedule: space is booked directly with the association's exhibitor team. The amounts below are indicative orders of magnitude for taking part in a five-day premium international trade show and do not in any way constitute the official TFWA rates. Request the exhibitor pack from TFWA for the actual prices.
Poste de dépenseFourchette basseFourchette haute
Exhibition space (bare space, indicative)15,000 €60,000 €
Stand design, build and dismantling20,000 €80,000 €
Team accommodation and travel (5 days, Cannes)10,000 €40,000 €
Hospitality, receptive services and entertainment5,000 €30,000 €
ESTIMATED TOTAL (indicative, 5 days)~50,000 €~210,000 €

Cannes is as much a client relationship event as an exhibition: the hospitality budget (dinners, evenings, hotel suites) often weighs as much as the stand itself. Actual rates to be confirmed with TFWA.

Preparing your visit

For the exhibitor

  • Book early: at the close of the 2025 edition, the organiser stated that no last-minute space was available, with the exhibition area having grown from 25,000 to 26,500 m2 on a constrained site.
  • Check your assigned village: the exhibition is split into eighteen zones (Blue, Yellow, Green, Riviera, Red, Bay, Harbour, Mediterranean, Ambassadeurs, Beach Villages...), and not all are equal in terms of footfall.
  • Book accommodation and restaurant tables as soon as reservations open: the Croisette is fully booked during the week.
  • Build the ONE2ONE meeting schedule in advance rather than relying on free-flow stand visits.

For the decision-making visitor

  • Pre-register before 3 September 2026.
  • Set aside Monday morning for the conference: the exhibition does not open until 12pm that day.
  • Use the ONE2ONE service to secure priority meetings, and keep Tuesday and Wednesday clear for touring the villages.
  • Allow three full days to properly cover the 456 companies expected.

Policy & CSR initiatives

TFWA does not publish a dedicated "commitments" or CSR page for the Cannes event, and the exhibition does not hold its own certification. Two socially-focused initiatives are, however, documented for the 2026 edition. #KickCancerThon sets up exercise bikes on the forecourt of the Palais des Festivals: TFWA donates €10 to the Royal Marsden Hospital for every kilometre ridden, in aid of research into NUT carcinoma. Alongside this, "Yes We Cannes!" Handisport returns for a fourth edition on Sunday 27 September, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, at the Allées de la Liberté, in partnership with Stade Toulousain Handisport and m1nd-set: wheelchair rugby, blind football and a hand-bike challenge. Since its launch in 2023, the initiative has raised more than €28,000 for Stade Toulousain Handisport (source: The Moodie Davitt Report).

On the venue side, the foundation is more formalised. The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès has been certified ISO 20121:2024 (responsible management of event activity) since 2022, ISO 9001:2015 since 2009 and ISO 18788:2015 since 2019, and holds the Tourisme & Handicap label since 2012 and Destination Innovante Durable since 2023. Its operator, SEMEC, became the first French congress centre to adopt the status of "société à mission" (purpose-driven company) on 12 December 2022, with the stated purpose "Accueillir durablement le monde" (Sustainably welcoming the world). A carbon assessment has been carried out since 2016.

To be distinguished from the commitments above: sustainability regularly features on the programme of TFWA conferences and workshops, but this is an editorial topic addressed for the industry, not a verifiable organisational commitment at the level of the event itself.

Trajectory analysis

The trend is one of a return to record levels. After the pandemic-era dip, the event recovered to 7,385 visitors in 2023, then 7,456 in 2024, within reach of the historic record of 7,531 visitors set in 2019, before surpassing it in 2025 with nearly 8,000 visitors and 482 exhibitors. The growth is most visible on the buyer side: 3,032 distributors and space managers in 2025 versus 2,861 a year earlier, a sign that the duty free and travel retail channel has regained its investment rhythm. The floor space, now at 26,500 m2, has become the real constraint: the Palais des Festivals imposes a physical ceiling that the organiser offsets through the village layout and outdoor spaces. For 2026, the registration count stood at 456 companies in early August, a pace consistent with the last two editions.

Unless otherwise stated, all factual data in this listing comes from the organiser's official website (tfwa.com).
